Notes from a week at the kiln

Before designing Oda’s packaging I spent a week in the studio, mostly sweeping floors and asking questions. The most useful thing I saw was the wall of glaze tests by the kiln.

A palette that already existed

Each test tile records a glaze, a firing and a result. Together they form a colour system more honest than anything I could have drawn: every colour on the packaging now matches a glaze the studio actually uses.

Slow is a feature

A firing takes two days. The packaging copy borrowed that pace — fewer words, longer sentences, and nothing that sounds like a sale.
